Computer assisted translation with Transbase
Transbase is our CAT-tool which is designed and developed for more efficient translations.
Transbase is our tool for computer aided translation (CAT) and translation memory functionality. A CAT-tool supports the translator with dictionaries, terminology and essential decisions that have to be made. By using a CAT-tool, efficiency increases as well as the quality of the translation.
By virtue of the fact that Transbase is developed from standardised database formats for input and output data, customers always have complete control over their information. Information can be exported from Transbase immediately and imported into all other systems based on SQL or mark-up languages such as XML, SGML, etc. or established industry standards for exchanging Translation Memories such as TMX. This means that the customer’s investment in cumulative databases is not in any way tied to Transbase, but can be transferred to any other system at all times.
A continuous internal development process of Transbase means that the application area is constantly being extended. One example of this is that Transbase is currently also used for SGML conversions. Another example is a version management system that is used for updating documents for several of our customers.
CBG performs quality assurance by means of manual proofreading and using a program for automatic proofreading that is called “QA-control”, which is included in Transbase. QA-control compares the original text with the translation and alerts the user to any discrepancy between the original and the translation in terms of figures and codes as well as a large number of user controlled parameters with respect to terms and characters.
